DNA Buccal Swab
Collection Instructions
IMPORTANT PRE-COLLECTION INSTRUCTIONS
Please only collect your sample on a Sunday or Monday and ensure that it is posted back on Monday.
Prior to collecting your DNA sample first thing in the morning, ensure that you have fasted overnight — this means no food, drink, oral care, smoking, or chewing gum. Also, please wash your hands thoroughly before handling the collection kit. This helps to reduce the risk of sample contamination and ensures the most accurate results from your test.
Sample Collection Instructions
- Ensure that you have fasted overnight — this means no food, drink, oral care, smoking, or chewing gum. Also, please wash your hands thoroughly before handling the collection kit.
- Place the unopened swabs and vials on a clean, level surface. Each vial has a barcode label with a unique patient identifier.
- Remove the first swab from its package. Firmly scrape the inside of one cheek while rotating the swab for 45 seconds.
- Open the first vial, insert the swab (swab tip down). Align the black line on the swab with the edge of the vial and SNAP it off leaving the swab tip remaining in the vial's liquid.
- On the opposite cheek, repeat steps 3 and 4 using the 2nd swab and vial.
- Ensure the orange cap is securely fastened on both vials. Insert both vials into the sealed section of the specimen transport bag and seal the bag.
- Ensure that the i-screen request form has been completed and placed into the non-sealable section of the specimen transport bag.
- Place the request form and transport bag into the Padded Envelope and post back to i-screen on that same day via a Royal Mail Post Box or Post Office.
